Abstract: High voltage boost converter with programmable peak current limit in HotRod Lite VQFN package.

TPS61377 Texas Instruments

The Texas Instruments TPS61377 synchronous boost converter is a high voltage boost converter with programmable peak current limit. These converters feature 50 milliohm low-side power switches and 40 milliohm high-side rectification switches to provide high efficiency and small size solutions. The TPS61377 boost converter operates over a wide input voltage range of 2.9V to 23V, with output voltage coverage up to 25V and a 6A switching current capability. These converters use an adaptive constant non-time peak current control topology to regulate the output voltage. The TPS61377 boost converter operates in pulse-width modulation (PWM) mode under moderate to heavy load conditions. These converters include two operating modes, selectable via the MODE pin at light loads. The two operating modes are pulse frequency modulation (PFM) mode to improve light load efficiency and forced PWM mode to avoid audible noise and low switching frequency. The TPS61377 converter also features soft-start, programmable peak switching current limit, output overvoltage protection, cycle-by-cycle overcurrent protection, and thermal shutdown protection. These synchronous boost converters offer a very small solution size with a 2.5mm x 2mm HotRod Lite VQFN package. Typical applications include 3.3V(IN), 5V(IN) to 12V(OUT), 24V(OUT) power conversion, industrial power systems and appliances.
