Summary: DACs with voltage outputs are designed for process control and industrial automation applications.

Texas Instruments afex820116-bit or 14-bit DAC

Texas Instruments AFEX820116-bit or 14-bit analog-to-analog converters (DACs) are highly integrated, high-precision, extremely low-power digital-to-analog converters (DACs) with voltage outputs designed for process control and industrial automation applications.

The Texas Instruments AFEx8201 includes most components needed to design a 4mA to 20mA, 3-wire or 4-wire sensor transmitter or analog output module. In addition to the high-precision DAC, the AFEx8201 integrates a 10ppm/°C voltage reference and diagnostic analog-to-digital converter (ADC). External voltage-to-current conversion and power regulation are required to accommodate intrinsic and functional safety concerns.

Multiplex internal diagnostic ADCs to multiple internal nodes by enabling automatic self-health checks. This check detects errors or failures in the internal power regulator, bias source, reference voltage, chip temperature, DAC output, and optional external voltage sources. If any fault is detected from the diagnostic ADC, window watchdog timer, or CRC frame error check, the device can optionally issue an interrupt, enter a user-specified fail-safe state, or both.
