Introduction, features and applications of u-blox IRIS-W10 module

u-blox IRIS-W10 modules are a range of high-performance, stand-alone, tri-radio, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth LE modules. The device provides strong Wi-Fi channel security and reliability, improves network efficiency and reduces power consumption.

The u-blox IRIS-W10 module demonstrates the NXP RW612 wireless microcontroller unit (MCU) with integrated triple radio. IRIS-W10 supports Wi-Fi 6 technology, Bluetooth LE 5.3, 802.15.4 low-rate wireless network, and open standard Matter over Wi-Fi, Thread and Ethernet connections. The IRIS-W1 is an ideal solution for secure connected products in commercial and home ecosystems, including PCB and external antenna options.

The IRIS-W101 module does not support internal antennas, allowing the PCB profile to be trimmed to 14.6mm x 16.8mm. Rather than having a built-in antenna, the RF signal is mounted on module pins for routing to an external antenna or antenna connector.

IRIS-W106 is equipped with an internal PCB trace antenna, using Abracon authorized antenna technology. Radio frequency signals cannot be connected externally. The module dimensions are 14.6mm x 20.9mm.

The Open CPU module configuration embeds a powerful Arm Cortex-M33 MCU clocked up to 260MHz with 1.2MB RAM and 8MB flash memory, and supports multiple peripheral interfaces (UART, USB, SPI, SDIO, RMII, QVGA, I( 2)S, I(2)C and gpio). The IRIS-W10 will be evaluated for compliance with the EU Radio Equipment Directive (RED). Certification approvals are also planned for the following countries: United States (FCC), Canada (ISED), Japan (MIC), Taiwan (NCC), South Korea (KCC), Australia/New Zealand (ACMA), Brazil (ANATEL) and South Africa (ICASA) ).

The modules will meet professional-grade operating requirements with a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
